Any great user experience should seamlessly blend storytelling and design. I believe that’s where a writer gets to dazzle the interface. That’s what I love to do. Redesigning the broken systems. Usable narratives and design choices that tackle both business and user goals.
How I became a content designer
My first writing gig was back in college. I had to write a blog about my experience in a hidden pattern. Not that I was actually excited to (I chose it as an elective). I explored blogging through this experience. This made me realize that as a writer in a small town in Pondicherry, I had the power to transport my readers to a space they thought existed. Stories that connect people.
Years later, when I reflect on my career as content designer, this experience has shaped my professional journey.
And, that’s a lesson I try to apply that I will be in their, the reader’s problems, in their journey or in the product.
My Journey
After surviving 4 years of college studying the quintessential Electronics and communication. I started my career as a software engineer. I quit 2 years later. My one essence, my heaven in this journey might’ve been me tired of making code. I had to cancel that a successful challenge for my passion.
The struggle was real!
01Taught myself copywriting.
Basics to real deals to translate technical graphic ideas.
02Freelance Copywriter & Strategist Worked as a freelance copy writer and content strategist for multiple industries.
03Content Writer Secured my first full time job in 2015 as a content writer.
This was the turning point where I realized writing I can actually make a career in remaining in my toes.
From a content writer to content marketing strategy, my core responsibilities included working on multiple content collaterals including social posts, SEO articles, Website content, CMS management, email marketing, crafting global market campaigns and so much more. On the other hand, UX was unrevealing and I was wondering how different it would be to become a UX writer. Soon, I got an opportunity to work on a UX project for a leading telecom in saudi arabia that helped me explore the world of UX.
I had the opportunity to run the impact on a user experience writer, a content designer I remained over these years. Today, as a lead content designer, I realize how a strong content strategy is the backbone of any user experience.
And with AI, I believe the role of a content designer has only evolved and broadened further. It’s shaping our thinking and shifting our mindset into more connected ideas, systems and interactions across technologies and platforms.
